Friends of Casco Bay
Friends of Casco Bay works to improve and protect the environmental health of Maine's beautiful Casco Bay. Through advocacy, education, stewardship activities, and water quality monitoring, Friends of Casco Bay is addressing the most critical threats to the Bay's ecosystem, such as oil spills, sewage pollution, dredged material disposal, and stormwater runoff. The Trust for Public Land
Founded in 1972, the Trust for Public Land is the only national nonprofit working exclusively to protect land for human enjoyment and well-being. TPL helps conserve land for recreation and spiritual nourishment and to improve the health and quality of life of American communities.

Maine Audubon
Since its inception in 1843 as the Portland Society of Natural History, Maine Audubon has become one of New England's leading regional organizations for environmental advocacy and education. An independent nonprofit organization supported by 6500 member households, Maine Audubon Society is dedicated to the protection, conservation, and enhancement of Maine's ecosystems through the promotion of individual understanding and actions.

Maine Coast Heritage Trust
Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) works to conserve coastal and other lands that define Maine's distinct landscape, protect its ecology, sustain its outdoor traditions and promote the well-being of its people. Since 1970, MCHT has helped permanently conserve more than 83,000 acres including valuable wildlife habitat, farm and forest land and 224 entire islands. MCHT provides conservation services to landowners, local land trusts, government agencies and communities throughout Maine.

Presumpscot Regional Land Trust
Founded in 1986, the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust's (PRLT) growing legacy currently includes 530 acres forever protected on 16 riverfront and watershed properties in Gorham, Standish, Gray, Sebago, and Windham. The PRLT mission is to conserve and protect natural lands and historic landscapes for posterity in the Presumpscot River watershed and western shore area of Sebago Lake including the preservation of wildlife habitat, agricultural lands, and where possible, public access for outdoor recreation. Formerly Gorham-Sebago Lake Regional Land Trust, the PRLT changed its name in 2007 to reflect a greater coverage area.

The Nature Conservancy
The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. Founded in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is the world's leading private, International conservation group. We preserve habitats and species by saving the lands and waters they need to survive.

Sierra Club, Maine Chapter
In the Spring of 1892, a determined band of men and women, led by the conservationist John Muir, made a commitment to the Earth. They became charter members of the Sierra Club. They shared a passion for wild places. They knew that none of them, acting alone, could save these endangered treasures. They hoped that together they could preserve America's vast natural heritage--not just for themselves, but as a legacy to future generations. Their hope was rewarded. The Sierra Club enabled them to explore, enjoy, and protect" the Earth and it helped translate their concern into concrete, effective action.

SOUTH PORTLAND LAND TRUST
We are a private, nonprofit land trust dedicated to the conservation of open space and the expansion of trail networks that are significant historically, educationally, recreationally, or ecologically to the people of South Portland.

American Hiking Society
American Hiking is the only national organization dedicated to serving hikers and protecting the nation's hiking trails. From the halls of Congress to the backcountry, AHS speaks up for America's hikers and the trails they love.

American Trails
The mission of American Trails is to lead the nation toward the creation and implementation of a comprehensive trails infrastructure that meets the recreation, health, and travel needs of ALL Americans.

Appalachian Mountain Club and Maine Chapter of the AMC
The Appalachian Mountain Club promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Northeast. We believe that the mountains and rives have an intrinsic worth and also provide recreational opportunity, spiritual renewal, and ecological and economic health for the region. We encourage people to enjoy and appreciate the natural world because we believe that successful conservation depends on this experience.

Appalachian Trail Conference
We are responsible since 1925 for coordinating the volunteer-based development, protection, and management of the Appalachian Trail - from Maine to Georgia. Our aim is to provide you with a wealth of information about the trail and those who take care of it. We've now organized most of this by state - features, changing trail conditions, regulations, and tips for a more enjoyable hike. The A.T. State by State section is the place to find lots of information about what could become your favorite hike on the Appalachian Trail.

Bicycle Coalition of Maine
Through safety, education, and access advocacy, the BCM is working to promote bicycling to enhance our communities, environment, and economy. We are a membership-based, nonprofit organization. Our strength comes from bicyclists like you supporting our work -- the more cyclists that join the BCM, the more effective we will be in making Maine a better place to bicycle.

Eastern Trail
Imagine walking - or biking - mostly through off-road woodland trails from Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Bug Light Park on Casco Bay in South Portland. This is the vision of the Eastern Trail Alliance (ETA), whose members seek to reopen the first railroad corridor into Maine as a recreational greenway.

East Coast Greenway
Walkers, cyclists, and other trail advocates have joined forces around an audacious project, a 2,600 mile traffic-free path linking East Coast cities from Maine to Florida. Launched only 8 years ago, this vision for an urban alternative to the highly popular Appalachian Trail is quickly becoming a reality.

Healthy Maine Walks
Healthy Maine Walks is sponsored by a coalition of trail and health agencies and organizations working together to build a healthier Maine . The Healthy Maine Walks website includes descriptions of registered walks for those interested in locating places to walk.

LA Trails, Lewiston-Auburn, Maine
LA Trails' mission is to serve as a public advocate for trail development by bringing together groups and individuals to create and help maintain non-motorized recreational trails, connecting urban streets and rural trails in Lewiston-Auburn.

Maine Department of Transportation Bike Tours
With. its beautiful scenery, bike-friendly roads and shared-use paths, Maine is a great place to cycle. In the mountains, along the sea, through the woods and over the beautiful byways in between, cyclists of all ages and skill levels find that cycling in Maine is the way to go. Maine Island Trail Association (MITA)
MITA, is a non-profit conservation organization committed to preserving Maine's undeveloped islands in their natural state and allow them for use to responsible visitors. MITA members have overnight camping or stop-over access to some 75 public and privately-owned islands located along the Maine Island Trail, a 325-mile long waterway extending from Casco Bay on the west to Machias Bay on the east. MITA encourages "low impact camping" and also offers "Adopt-An-Island" and Monitoring programs which allows for members seeking volunteer opportunities.

Maine Marathon
Sportshoe Center Maine Marathon/Half Marathon/Relay takes place the first Sunday in October.  The race has been recognized by New England Runner magazine as the Race of the Year for 2004.

Maine Outdoor Adventure Club (MOAC)
The goals of the club are: To facilitate the pursuit of amateur outdoor activities of all types for persons of all skill levels.To provide a structure for education(i.e. safety, conservation, environmental awareness). To provide an outlet for public service activities. To provide a structure for social networking and community building.

Maine Track Club
Founded in 1979, the Maine Track Club is Maine's largest and most active running club. The club has over 500 members, organizes many road races each year and hosts monthly membership meetings featuring notable speakers from the world of running and fitness.

The Maine Track Club features a wide range of members, including beginning runners and experienced racers, men and women, children and seniors. Our common bond is the joy of movement and of being outdoors.

Saco Bay Trails
Saco Bay Trails seeks to acquire permanent public access to recreational greenways in the Saco Bay area by working in cooperation with private landowners, and community volunteer organizations, and commercial organizations, and with City and State and Federal agencies; and in cooperation with adjacent communities.

Southern Maine Volkssport Association
Sponsors non-competitive, self-paced walks. We are a member of the American Volkssport Association and the International Federation of Popular Sports

The Greater Portland Council of Governments is a regional agency serving the needs of municipalities within Cumberland County, Maine . Our agency provides a variety of of planning and development services for our member municipalities.

National Parks and Conservation Association
NPCA's mission, to protect and enhance America's National Park System for present and future generations, can only be achieved through a well-educated and committed park constituency. Public education through our publications and our public outreach to inspire activism is key to our efforts. The activism of our members and friends backs NPCA's advocacy role for the parks among lawmakers and park managers, calling for the strongest protections for our national treasures. When laws protecting parks are not followed, we use litigation as a way to further ensure that our parks are protected.

The City of Portland 's website receives thousands of visitors each day and we believe that the Internet is a powerful tool for community building and citizen participation.
