TRAIL WORK

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for trail work. You can participate in regularly scheduled volunteer work days, ongoing stewardship projects, and “Done in a Day” projects.

Responsibilities: Trail work volunteers are expected to come prepared for trail work. We ask that you wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves and water. All volunteers are required to review our volunteer handbook prior to working on the trails. In addition to instruction in basic tasks, the handbook outlines our code of conduct, which includes essential guidelines for maintaining our positive relationship with landowners and the community as a whole. The volunteer handbook is available here.

EVENTS

We have two events each year which require many volunteers, in order for them to run smoothly. These are the “Happy Trails Big Bash & Silent Auction” in the Spring and the “Portland Trails 10K—Trail to Ale” in the Fall.

Trail to Ale 10K
:
Saturday, September 19, 2010 marks our 11th annual Trail to Ale 10K run.  This event attracts over 1100 runners with a post-race party sponsored by Shipyard Brewing, Portland Pie Company and Whole Foods Market.  Volunteers help out along the race route and with the post-race party.

OUTREACH

Outreach volunteers represent Portland Trails at community and wellness events by promoting membership, raising awareness of the organization's trail system, and selling the Portland Trails “Map & Trail Guide” and logo merchandise. Outreach volunteers answer questions about the organization and to share helpful tips and experiences about our trails.
