Welcome to the first installment of our featured a Welcome to the first installment of our featured animal series! Meet the river otter, an adorable, playful, and highly intelligent animal 🦦 If you’re lucky, you might spot a few swimming in the ponds at Evergreen Cemetery! This summer, look for the illustrated otter, drawn by the talented local artist @clairehanleyart, throughout the Evergreen Cemetery trails.

To help keep our trails safe and clean for all wildlife, become a Portland Trails member! Visit the link in our bio.

Thank you to our featured animal sponsor, @evergreen_credit_union!

Jaime is putting the final touches on the latest section of the North Deering bicycle byway. This stretch connects University Park & Canco Road, goes past a pond, and crosses over Milliken Brook.

Portland Trails is working on this multi-year bicycle byway project with the @cityportland to develop a street and trail byway that will improve access to active transportation for thousands of Portland residents. The trail sections we’ve completed so far are six feet wide and have a hard surface to accommodate as many modes of human-powered transportation as possible!

“Traditional cultures...recognize that human peo “Traditional cultures...recognize that human people are only one manifestation of intelligence in the living world. Other beings, from Otters to Ash trees, are understood as persons, possessed of their own gifts, responsibilities, and intentions. This is not some kind of mistaken anthropomorphism. Trees are not misconstrued as leaf-wearing humans but respected as unique, sovereign beings equal to or exceeding the power of humans.”
