The Holiday Dash 5K, presented by Martin's Point Health Care, is a fun and festive race along the scenic Eastern Prom Trail!
Each year, over 400 runners and walkers participate in this one-of-a-kind 5K. All proceeds benefit Portland Trails and the 70+ mile trail network that is transforming Greater Portland. Costumes or festive outfits are welcome but not required. Just be sure to dress for the weather! We'll be running and walking through snow, shine, wind, or sleet. You'll receive a complimentary winter hat with your registration.
After this year's race, join us for a festive post-race celebration that will warm you up from the inside out! We will create a pop-up park near the finish line for participants and families to enjoy, complete with delicious hot cocoa and coffee from Navis Cafe! We can't wait to celebrate winter, community, and a race well run with you!
Please note: After feedback from participants, conversations with Rí Rá staff, and analyses of Covid-19 trends, we have decided not to host an indoor brunch after the race this year. We hope to bring this beloved tradition back in future years when indoor gatherings are safer for everyone in our community.
Portland Trails holds the safety of our staff, participants, and volunteers above all else. To ensure our event is as safe as possible and that you are comfortable both on and off the course, we’ll be implementing Covid-19 safety measures and will share them with you in advance of event day. Our team continues to work with local public health authorities to meet or exceed all local guidance, rules, and regulations. In the event that we cancel the live event, you will have the option of turning your registration (minus a processing fee) into a donation that supports the trails, receiving a refund, or applying the fees to entry into a virtual race.
Vaccine or negative test requirement:
This year, all participants, volunteers and staff are required to show proof of either full Covid-19 vaccination or the negative results of a Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event. We want to keep our community safe, and the best way to do that is to take precautions. If you choose not to join us for this year's event, we hope you will enjoy a walk or run on a less crowded trail on December 12th!
Vaccination information: To show proof of vaccination, please upload a photo of your vaccine card with your registration. You will be prompted to do so when registering for the race. (Note: If you have registered but did not upload your vaccine information and would like to, you may do so through your RunSignUp profile.) If you do not upload your vaccine information when you register, please bring your ID and a hard copy, photocopy, photo, or digital record of your vaccine information with you when you pick up your bib (either at packet pick up or on race day).
Negative test result: If you plan on showing your negative test result, please bring your ID and your paper or electronic results with you when you pick up your bib (either at packet pick up or on race day). If you plan on taking an at-home rapid test, we will accept the results IF you take the test in front of us when you arrive to pick up your bib. You must bring your own test kit - we will NOT provide any rapid testing supplies. This is not ideal for anyone, so we ask that you use this option only as a last resort.
For kids 11 and under: We understand that not all eligible children will be fully vaccinated by the time of the race, so we will accept either a negative test result OR proof of at least partial vaccination for kids 11 and under. Please upload vaccine information for any children you are registering, if applicable.

Can I dress up/wear a costume? Of course! Lots of participants do. We always welcome silliness!
Do I have to dress up/wear a costume? Not at all! Wear what you feel comfortable in.
Can I run or walk with my dog or stroller? No. Unfortunately, the race course is too narrow to safely allow strollers or dogs.
Can I sign up if I'm under 21?As of right now, no. In past years, all participants were required to be 21+ because registration included two beverage tickets redeemable at the brunch at Rí Rá following the event. We don't need to tell you that Covid has shaken things up! We'll determine how and if brunch will be incorporated into this year's event closer to the race under the advice of the Maine CDC. If we decide not to hold a brunch this year, participants 14 and up will be welcome!
Can I volunteer for this event? Yes! Our volunteers help the event run smoothly at every turn. We'll announce volunteer opportunities for the Holiday Dash in November.
