You will find information behind each pin on the Virtual Tour on how children’s developmental needs are met through a variety of play elements on the EECS playground.
We hope to draw attention back to the main audience for this work…CHILDREN. Children learn through PLAY. The places they play should be rich environments that inspire their innate curiosity.
This project was funded by a large Community Development Block Grant through the City of Portland, as well as other smaller grants. Sashie Misner, a local Landscape Architect who specializes in children’s play, designed the project. The SGGC worked with a dedicated group of students, parents, teachers and City staff to bring the project to fruition. The EECS school community partners with the City of Portland’s Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department to maintain the school ground.
